Transforming a Historic Landmark into a Modern Workplace

Located within the historic 37-acre former Waterford Crystal campus, Building 1 Glassworks is an 80,000 sq.ft Grade A office development that demonstrates how existing commercial buildings can be transformed into high-performance workplaces for the future.

Working alongside our sister company, Lawler Sustainability, Lawler Consulting played a key role in the deep retrofit of this landmark development, combining Mechanical & Electrical Building Services Engineering with advanced building performance analysis and energy modelling to optimise energy efficiency and support the project’s ambitious sustainability objectives.

The completed development achieved an A3 BER and LEED Gold Certification, creating a modern, all-electric workplace while preserving the character and legacy of one of Waterford’s most iconic commercial buildings.

Engineering a Fossil Fuel-Free Workplace

A core objective of the redevelopment was to create a highly efficient, all-electric commercial building with no reliance on fossil fuels.

Using detailed building performance analysis and energy modelling through IES VE, Lawler Consulting and Lawler Sustainability evaluated and refined a range of energy conservation measures, enabling the design team to optimise building performance before construction.
