A Long-Term Partnership Driving Sustainable Change

Building on a trusted relationship spanning more than 30 years, Lawler Consulting has been working alongside AIB to support the refurbishment, modernisation and decarbonisation of its nationwide branch network.

As part of AIB’s strategic investment programme, Lawler Sustainability carried out detailed energy surveys and assessments across 85 branches nationwide, establishing a comprehensive understanding of existing building performance and identifying opportunities to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

This programme is helping AIB modernise its estate while supporting its long-term sustainability ambitions and improving the performance of one of Ireland’s largest property portfolios.

Creating a Clear Decarbonisation Roadmap

Following detailed site assessments, preliminary BER assessments were completed for each branch to establish a consistent performance baseline.

Using this information, Lawler Sustainability developed a comprehensive Decarbonisation Pathway Report, providing a practical business case for investment across the portfolio.

The programme evaluated measures including:

  • High-efficiency heat pump systems
  • Heat recovery ventilation
  • LED lighting upgrades
  • Building Management System optimisation
  • Building fabric improvements
  • Operational energy reduction measures

Each recommendation was prioritised to improve building performance while reducing fossil fuel dependency, operational costs and carbon emissions.

Delivering the Programme

Lawler Consulting is supporting the phased rollout of improvement works across multiple branches simultaneously, translating the decarbonisation strategy into practical engineering solutions.

Working alongside Lawler Sustainability, our teams continue to oversee the implementation of pathway recommendations, ensuring engineering design aligns with AIB’s operational requirements while delivering measurable improvements in energy performance.

This collaborative approach enables strategic sustainability planning and engineering delivery to operate as one integrated service.
